Step by step, with new technologies and smart solutions, we are building a sustainable, resilient and vivid education system. The UNSA special edition of the DERHE newsletter shows how that looks in practice.

Over the project, 11 academic staff were retrained in Ghent and Ljubljana, and their new knowledge went straight into teaching. The Multifunctional Learning Center at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, with a total equipment investment of 68.738 BAM, now offers VR headsets, AR glasses, a 3D printer and interactive tools for daily teaching, research and industry training. The DERHE portal and the Moodle platform build on UNSA’s existing Digi.Edu infrastructure, so results remain available long after the project ends.

Real progress happens where university, industry and society meet. In 100 days, six IT companies and four agrifood companies took part in blended trainings. Students from UNSA and the University of Tirana worked together in an international hackathon, developing a strategic framework for Mlin Ustikolina that impressed the company’s director. Students also produced seven graduation and master’s theses, four student projects and three scientific papers, including one master’s thesis with an international mentor from the University of Ljubljana.

At the heart of UNSA’s approach is a transdisciplinary mindset. Food is life, and life does not recognize borders. Food brings together engineers, agronomists, economists, technologists and consumers, and it connects Sarajevo with Tuzla, Mostar, Ljubljana, Tirana and the wider European community. Smart technologies such as embedded systems, automation, AI and digital platforms are tools for food systems that are more resilient, more sustainable and closer to people. Crossing disciplines and borders is how we turn knowledge into solutions that last.
