SUS-SOIL Project: Visit of the Project Team to the Municipality of Bugojno

As part of the activities of the EU project SUS-SOIL (Horizon Europe 2024–2028), representatives of the University of Sarajevo (Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences and Faculty of Forestry) conducted a working visit to the Municipality of Bugojno. Bugojno is one of the three municipalities where the project is being implemented and forms an integral part of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian SUS-SOIL Living Lab.

The purpose of the visit was to identify and document field points where soil sampling will be conducted in spring 2026, followed by analyses of the soil’s physical and chemical properties, in line with the planned project activities.
 During the field survey, 32 sampling locations were defined and confirmed, and all essential data were collected iincluding information on ownership, geographic coordinates, spatial characteristics (slope, exposure, surrounding area, etc.), and the condition of vegetation cover. All locations were documented with photographs and accompanying records.

Two teams participated in the field activities:
from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, University of Sarajevo: Prof. Dr. Sabrija Čadro, Prof. Dr. Mirza Tvica, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Musić (Innovation Broker), and Doc. Dr. Emina Sijahović;
from the Faculty of Forestry, University of Sarajevo: Prof. Dr. Dženan Bećirović and Doc. Dr. Bruno Marić.

The activities were carried out in cooperation with the Municipal Department for Economy, Social Affairs, and General Administration, which provided valuable support in coordinating and collecting data in the field.

This visit represents an important step in the implementation of the SUS-SOIL project, which aims to enhance the understanding of soil degradation processes and promote sustainable soil management through the development of the Living Lab approach in various agroecological conditions across Europe.

Similar activities will soon be conducted in the municipalities of Ilidža and Živinice, where, in cooperation with local institutions, soil sampling points and demonstration (demo) plot locations will be defined.
